Speed Mental Maths ~ The Trachtenberg System

The Trachtenberg Speed System is a system of mental calculation. An alternative way of learning maths, the system consists of many maths shortcuts and mental math tricks, particularly for multiplication.

Known to be one of the fastest speed math systems, it comprises a number of easily memorised patterns that allow one to perform arithmetic computations without pen and paper. The system primarily focuses on multiplication tricks but with further practice and study you can learn division, addition, subtraction and square root.

Science Stem Projects

STEM curriculum is based on the idea of educating students in four disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teaching the four disciplines separately, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning experience based on real-world applications. Through STEM, students will develop key skills such as problem solving, creativity, critical analysis, independent thinking and initiative.

In these workshops, each student will receive his/her very own model kit of a real-world application. With the assistance of the teacher, students will engage in hands-on work building the application while learning the scientific and engineering principles behind them.

Read Well, Write Better (Creative Writing)

Is your child’s composition score stuck in the 60-70% range? Has he or she been told to adopt different writing approaches by different teachers? Composition writing at primary school shouldn't be as tough as it's made out to be. In this workshop, we teach students practical skills that they can use to immediately improve their composition scores.

While practice is key to improving, the mastery of any language is rooted in reading. Recognising this, the programme also aims to inculcate the love for reading in our young writers through engaging activities based on classic literary texts and a field trip to the library.

Focus areas

  • Theme, Pictures & Story Structure

  • Practical Writing Skills

Go (Weiqi) for Beginners

In 1996, a computer system (Deep Blue) defeated a reigning human world chess champion (Garry Kasparov) for the first time. It would take another 20 years before programmers came up with an AI computer system (AlphaGo) capable of beating the one of the greatest Go players of all time (Lee Sedol) - a testimony of the complexity of the game.

Invented in China more than 2500 years ago, Go was considered one of the four essential arts in ancient China and is the oldest board game continuously played to the present day. Despite its simple rules, Go is a game that requires enormous brain computing power due to the sheer number of possible moves and board positions.
