Our Post-PSLE Bridging Class
As your child approaches the end of their PSLE journey, we understand the importance of ensuring they are well-prepared for the next stage of their academic life—Secondary One. To help your child transition smoothly and confidently, we are excited to offer our Secondary One Bridging Programme, designed to equip them with essential skills to tackle English and Language Arts in just three weeks.
We have developed two specialised programmes that focus on critical areas for Secondary One success:
SECONDARY ONE ENGLISH
This three-week programme is tailored to familiarise students with the expectations of Secondary One English, helping them adapt to more complex language skills and critical thinking. The course will cover these key areas: composition, comprehension and summary.
Composition
Personal recount compositions require students to describe an account of a significant event in their lives and to layer it with a thoughtful reflection. In addition to descriptive skills, students need to be able to dissect an event to extract relevant themes and lessons.
Summary Writing
From reading and understanding a factual text to identifying and rewriting the salient points in more concise yet precise form, students will be taken through the entire process of what it takes to tackle a summary writing exercise, and more importantly, how to score full marks for it.
Comprehension
Students will be introduced to the narrative and non-narrative text types. We’ll focus on questions that’ll require students to provide responses on language use. They’ll need to learn to read between the lines, identify vocabulary in context and assess use of language for impact and more.

Time: 11.15am – 1.15pm
Total duration: 6 hours

SECONDARY ONE LANGUAGE ARTS
Our Language Arts Programme offers a unique opportunity for students with an interest in literature or those who wish to sharpen their critical reading and writing skills. Over three weeks, students will work on literary analysis, explore writing devices, and be exposed to varied writing styles in curated texts. They will also receive training in writing expository essays, a crucial skill that demands clear thinking and precise writing.
Literature & Unseen Prose
Using pop culture works that have literary roots, students will be introduced to the world of literature. Students will learn figurative language, dramatic devices, characterisation and symbolism. They will be taught how to annotate texts and create their own notes for revision.
Unseen Poetry
What makes poems different from prose? Stanzas, rhyme, rhythm, metaphors and more! Students will make use of the SPECS and SLIMS template to study and analyse poems. To round off the lesson, students will try their hand at composing a poem on a subject dear to their hearts.
Expository Writing
Expository writing is a genre of writing that provides information and explanations in a straightforward manner to the readers. A departure from the descriptive style of writing students are used to in Primary School, students will learn how to adopt a simple, yet clear writing style that demonstrates objectivity.
