Mathematics Enrichment

Module 1 ~ Prime Factorisation With LCM & HCF

What’s so special about prime numbers? Before jumping into the nitty-gritty of how prime factorisation works, students will learn about the practical applications of prime numbers, and why mathematicians are fascinated by this class of special numbers.

Module 2 ~ Operations Involving Integers

Negative numbers may not be a difficult concept to understand, but arithmetic operations involving them are a different story. Students will learn how to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers on both sides of 0 on the number line and use their new skills to solve word problems.

Module 3 ~ Estimation

In real life, it’s not always possible to ascribe a precise numerical value to an abstract or physical entity. Therein lies the necessity of estimation, an everyday skill we take for granted. In this lesson, students will hone those skills and learn rounding to different degrees of accuracy.

Module 4 ~ Algebra

By now, students will have learnt the basic concepts required to form and solve equations. We’ll build on this foundation and delve into the more abstract aspects of complex algebraic manipulation. A solid foundation in algebra is key to achieving good grades in secondary school level mathematics.

Module 5 ~ Simple Interest & Hire Purchase

How do banks make money? Do you actually need to have $100,000 or $1,000,000 in your bank account before you can buy a car or a house? Calculations involving percentages and the time value of money are all important concepts when it comes to financial literacy.

Module 6 ~ Currency Exchange & Income Tax

How much Malaysian Ringgit or US Dollars can you get with 1 Singapore Dollar? How much does a working adult in Singapore need to pay to the government for every dollar that he or she earns? Through real-life examples and roleplay, we’ll show students why money truly makes the world go round.

Module 7 ~ Geometrical Constructions

Students will be taught to draw perpendicular bisectors and angle bisectors using the compass, set square, protractor and of course, their trusty ruler! After 6 years of word problems that require tedious number-crunching, geometry construction will open up the students’ eyes to a new world of mathematics.
