Understanding the PSLE Cut-Off Points
The PSLE COP, or cut-off point, is essential to a school’s admission process.
This score varies from one secondary school to another and is influenced by historical performance, popularity, and available vacancies.
The COP range represents the PSLE scores of the first and last students admitted to each school.
Starting in 2024, the Express, N(A), and N(T) streams will be discontinued. Instead, students will be grouped into Posting Groups 1, 2, and 3 for school admission. These groups determine the initial level of subjects students start with in Secondary One.
Students can take subjects at three levels: G1, G2, and G3. This is part of the Full Subject-Based Banding (FSBB) initiative for a more customised education. Under FSBB, students are not confined to one track; they can adjust their subject levels based on strengths and needs.
The aim is to offer a curriculum tailored to students’ abilities, guided by their PSLE cut-off points. This approach seeks to create a fairer, more personalised education system that caters to individual strengths and needs.

What about Special Assistance Plan (SAP) Schools?
As SAP schools primarily focus on the Chinese language and culture, they usually have their own admission criteria and COPs, which can differ from regular secondary schools.
While the PSLE score remains a priority requirement, students who perform well in the PSLE Chinese language exam or have garnered achievements in endeavours related to the Chinese language and culture carry more weight in the admissions process.
Students who have achieved Distinction, Merit, or Pass in HCL and have a PSLE score of 14 or better (i.e. PSLE score ≤ 14) will receive an advantage in their application to SAP schools.
If multiple students with the same PSLE score apply for the same SAP school, those with better HCL grades will be given priority for placement over other students. This applies before considering tie-breakers.
That said, Higher Chinese Language (HCL) is not required for admission into SAP schools, nor is it a compulsory subject for students once posted to a SAP school; only Chinese Language is needed for both stages.
2024 PSLE Cut-off Points Guide – Can you use it effectively?

Some key things to consider are applications to affiliated secondary schools or Integrated Programme (IP).
To secure priority admission to the affiliated secondary school, your child should select that school as their first choice. However, admission is not guaranteed and depends on the availability of spots. Some schools may have additional requirements for students from affiliated primary schools.
For schools that offer the Integrated Programme (IP) and the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) Programme, affiliation priority will only be given for the SEC Programme.
At least 20% of the spots in each school’s Posting Group will be reserved for students who do not benefit from affiliation priority.
If your child is interested in the Integrated Programme and SEC Programme offered by the same school, you must list the two school names separately in order of preference. Please note that if your child only selects the school with the Integrated Programme, they will not be considered for posting to the SEC Programme, and vice versa.
